Kei Saito became the first athlete kicked out of PyeongChang 2018 for doping after the short track speedskater tested positive for an unnamed banned substance prior to competition.

The 21-year-old was a reserve on the Japanese 5,000-meter men's relay team that was scheduled to begin competition on Tuesday.

Saito's positive test was the first ever by a Japanese athlete at the Winter Olympics. His sister, Hitomi Saito, is also a member of the short track team for Japan at PyeongChang 2018.
